Christmas

Christmas
What is Christmas for you? If you’re a mom does it mean continually cleaning for those parties or does it mean the endless days of shopping, baking and decorating? Does Christmas mean presents and family or does it mean Christ and his celebration? For most including myself I often forget that it means Christ. I usually get caught up in the baking, cooking and planning that goes into the Christmas parties and presents for my family and children. I know what it should be but I don’t always remember what I should be focusing on continually.

To help or condemn

Today I saw a friend named Chris. He needed a little money so I gave him some. There were some older people walking by and they looked at me as though I should not be giving my friend money. They looked at me disturbed, then looked at my friend and again back at me holding my daughters hand. I think I caught their attention today but I wonder what they were thinking. I wonder if they thought that I was doing something stupid (like their faces said) or I wonder if they were looking into their heart thinking that they should be doing something for the homeless in our community. You see I think that people forget about the homeless in our community. I think that they forget everyday that their are people less fortunate then they. I think they forget that each one of those people were just like us at one point. I think we forget they all were born in a birthing center (hospital or home),they all had a mom and dad, they all played out in their backyards, that they had food to eat day to day. I'm sure they thought that they would never be where they are today, homeless; with one pair of clothes a year, maybe one meal a week, haven't bathed in quite some time. I'm sure they never thought that it could be them.

when you see a homeless man or woman on the street what do you think? What do you think when you see someone helping them? What if that person helping has a little child observing ? Do you condemn them for doing what they are doing or do you give praise that there is someone taking care of the homeless? Do you think that we should be showing our children that we need to be taking care of the people, all people, no matter what. Do you pass judgment on that person? Do you think that they are there because they want to be, or that they are there because they use substances? They may be there for those reasons or they might just be in a rough spot.

I think that we are not to judge why they are there, I believe that we are just supposed to help them. Even Jesus doesn't say judge then help, all Jesus says is to help. I think that if more people helped with less judging there would be less people condemning those of us who do think we should be helping and are helping.

Jesus says in Matthew 25:
35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Who is the least? is it the people who are on the street?

Your best friend

Today I came across something that really got me thinking. The question is, is your spouse your best friend? Well actually the first question that was asked was, "what do you consider to be attributes of you best friend, and who do you call your best friend? Do you have many or few? Do you drop anything and go running if they need your help?" This was the true question. I started talking about my "girlfriends" and the people that were what I thought to be closest to me. The table of people said stuff like they babysat for you and help you when you need a shoulder to cry on. They also said that they would get up at all times of the night to help their friend, or just be their to listen. They would pray for them and continue to help them through whatever they were going through without passing judgment. They are open with there friend and are honest with their friends. All these things about their "best friend" or their "girlfriend". Then one of the lady's got up and asked us if our best friend was our spouse? Oh my goodness their was silence. We had all been talking about people that God gave us but forgot the most important person that he gave to us "our spouse". Is it that you will drop all for a friend, but when you spouse asks for your help or for you to do something that you get an attitude about it all. Or how you will stay up all night for a friend in need, but when your spouse needs to talk you tell him that you are too tired or have to do something else. God gave us such a wonderful friend for all our lives, and yet we still think that the people that come and go are our "best friends". I know that brought such a light to my heart and I hope it will for all who reads. Your spouse should always be your best friend!

class: week one

In class we were told to pick a book out of the bible (from her list of books) and philemon is the book that i picked. This is week one homework. Philemon.
We were also asked to do a worksheet on our bible. There is so much that I had no clue about, ya know all that stuff before Genesis. Lots to learn about.............

philemon

Name of Text: PHILEMON Author: Paul and Timothy
Date: AD 60 Recipient: Philemon
Version: NIV

Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our dear friend and fellow worker, to Apphia our sister, to Archippus our fellow soldier and to the church that meets in your home: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, because I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints. I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints. Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do, yet I appeal to you on the basis of love, I then, as Paul-and old man and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus-I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, who became my son while I was in chains. Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful to both of you and to me. I am sending him-who is my very heart-back to you. I would have liked to keep him with me so that he could take your place in helping me while I am in chains for the gospel. But I did not want to do anything without your consent, so that any favor you do will be spontaneous and not forced. Perhaps the reason he was separated from you for a little while was that you might have him back for good-no longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a dear brother. He is very dear to me but even dearer to you both as a man and as a brother in the Lord. So if you consider me a partner, welcome him as you would welcome me. If he has done you any wrong or owes you any anything, charge it to me. I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand. I will pay it back-not to mention that you owe me your very self. I do wish, brother, that I may have some benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ. Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask. And one thing more: Prepare a guest room for me, because I hope to be restored to you in answer to your prayers. Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke, my fellow workers. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

Class

I'm starting a new class today on how to read and study my bible. I'm hoping that it will help me to dig deeper into the bible and want to read it more. I have a problem with just picking it up and wanting to read it with all that goes on around my life and in my life. I am hoping that because I have to do homework with my bible, that I will just start picking it up along more often along the way. Well we will see how it goes.

Toddler words of wisdom by Adi

Adi has a due.
Adi came up to me as we were collecting items for Missionettes and told me she had a due. Absolutely confused I asked her what it was, all she said was "I have a due". Still confused I asked her to show me her due. She came into the living room with a penny and said "here is my due". I started laughing because: if two coins is dues then one coin must be a due. kinda funny how a 3 year olds brain works.

Who can tie shoes.
One night Adi wanted her shoes on. She can not tie her own shoes so somebody else has to tie them. Paul and I were asking her who all could help her with this task. "Can mommy help"? We asked her. "yah" she replied. "Can daddy help you"? "yah" she replied again. We went through a list of people that could help her, and she answered yah to them all. Then we asked her if Toby (our dog) could help her. Pausing for a second she replied "noooooooooo, he doesn't have any hands, he only has feet. :)
